Event Update
The 8th International Level Crossing Symposium and Managing Trespass Seminar, which took place in Sheffield, UK between 13 – 16 April 2004, was a great success. I have received a number of complimentary messages from delegates around the world and it gives me great pleasure to have been involved in an event where there was such evident commitment to share experience and good practice in managing the risks associated with level crossings and trespass.
157 delegates attended the symposium, with representatives from 24 different countries making it the most diverse gathering of level crossing professionals to date. There was a general agreement that we should pool research
The Managing Trespass Seminar on the 13 April 2004 attracted nearly 100 delegates from 18 countries. The seminar focused on managing trespass from a UK perspective, managing trespass in the USA and Canada and issues surrounding suicide on the railways. Despite the diversity of the audience, there were similarities in many of the experiences shared and there was real commitment from delegates to share good practice and information.
On behalf of the Organising Committee, I would like to thank everyone who attended the event and contributed to the success of the 8th International Level Crossing Symposium and Managing Trespass Seminar.
I would also like to take this opportunity to announce Montreal, Canada, as the host city for the next in this series of conferences, taking place in September 2006.
Best Wishes Aidan Nelson Organising Committee Chairman – 2004
